The cover is lavishly illustrated in full colour for the Alpha Chemical Co. manufacturers of the United Service Shoe Blacking, with further advertising on back. Very fine. Estimate C$150, sold for C$800.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

The illustration depicts a red cross plus four photos of Canadian nurses inside maple leafs, entitled “The Daughters of the Queen / Nurses with the Canadian Contingent / South Africa”. A rare and lovely card, accompanied by a copy of a 1994 BNA Topics article announcing a new record price obtained ($950) for either this card, or one just like it. Very fine. Ex. Liptak collection. Hammer I squared circle, a very fine free strike -/DE 15/94 on a 1c QV stationery post card addressed to Berlin (partial receiver on back, alongside red Acton Free Press handstamp). This is the latest recorded date for this hammer, and one of only 4 known strikes, plus the only known cover. Apparently two of the three reported strikes on stamp are thought to be Hammer II which is yet unconfirmed as they have not been seen in a long time. This strike is dated the same day of the Hammer II proof strike. Very fine and desirable. RF 180. From the The Ted Kerzner Squared Circle Cancellations of Canada. Estimate C$4,000.

Lot 924 CoverLot 924 Canada #67, 68, 70 1898 Registered QV Leaf Cover to Barbados, franked with fresh copies of 1c, 2c purple (pair) and 5c, all tied by Berlin Ont c.d.s. and addressed to Bridgetown Barbados. Back has a number of cancels, including Berlin, Toronto, NY oval registration, and Barbados receiver. There is a vertical crease resulting in a tear (on back only) and opening tears (on back only) still a striking cover with very fine appearance. Estimate C$300.
