Work With Us

Are you looking for a fulfilling career in philately and collectibles?

Sparks Auctions is looking for people with integrity and attention to detail to become lotters and describers for our sales, as employees or contractors. The philatelic and collectibles trade is constantly evolving, and we need to be ready to meet the high expectations of many hundreds of consignors each year, while creating appealing sales for our thousands of bidders and buyers.

The right applicants will have good general knowledge of stamps, postal history and the auction and retail markets for philatelic material and other collectibles. They will have the ability to use a variety of catalogues, reference material and online resources to source information about a wide range of items, from common to very specialized, and to evaluate them. Applicants will have a keen eye for condition and a deep desire to maximize value for consignors. They will be curious, well-organized, and methodical. They will have excellent writing skills in English, with additional languages an asset. They will enjoy solitary work and teamwork equally. Experience with current computer suites is a requirement and data entry experience is an asset. Proprietary system training will be provided. Specialized knowledge of Canada and BNA philately is an asset.

Employment can begin immediately, with compensation commensurate with experience, and could be full-time or part-time. This work requires in-person attendance at our headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario, with most work happening during a standard work week, and as required to support sale days and show attendance. There may be opportunities for remote work. We are open to qualified applicants from around the world who are eligible to work in Canada, whether you are already in the trade and looking for a change, or if you’ve always dreamed of building a career in philately and collectibles.

Please send your resume, highlighting related experience to General Manager Peter MacDonald (pmacdonald@sparks-auctions.com) for consideration. If you are reading this posting on our website, we are still accepting applications.
