The illustration depicts a red cross plus four photos of Canadian nurses inside maple leafs, entitled “The Daughters of the Queen / Nurses with the Canadian Contingent / South Africa”. A rare and lovely card, accompanied by a copy of a 1994 BNA Topics article announcing a new record price obtained ($950) for either this card, or one just like it. Very fine. Ex. Liptak collection. Lot 652, Canada 1899 twelve cent "AR" registered cover Montreal to New OrleansLot 652 Canada #76, 79 1899 12c “AR” Registered Cover to New Orleans, mailed Montreal (squared circle precursor AUG.9.1899) to New Orleans Louisiana (AUG.13 receiver on front), franked with two 5c plus a 2c purple Numerals (paying 2c postage, 5c registration and 5c “avis de réception” or acknowledgement of receipt), stamps are tied by oval Rs and there is a rare free strike of an “AR” in circle.
