Lot 570 Newfoundland #28a 1869 12c pale red brown Queen Victoria on thin yellow paper Folded Letter to England, mailed St John’s NOV.25.1869 (in red), with Liverpool DEC.12.1869 receiver on front and Poole receiver on back DEC.13.1869. There is a “via Halifax” notation on front. Stamp is damaged and the damaged outer wrapper of this folded letter has been repaired with tape. Unitrade CV$300, sold for C$200 plus buyer’s premium.

Few edge creases and minor corner faults, stamp is a real jumbo (with small faults), else a very fine cover. Accompanied by a 2002 APS certificate not mentioning the small faults. Another cover from the Waterman correspondence, with its contents (a long one page letter). Very minor corner fault at top right, still a very fine cover. Accompanied by a 2001 APS certificate. Unitrade CV$200, sold for C$425 plus buyer’s premium.

A lovely and clear strike of the numeral 2, properly tying a 1p red imperforate. Vertical fold and reinforcing of back, still a very presentable cover to show off this cancel. S.G. CV £550.

Lot 471Lot 471 Nova Scotia #2, 2a 1851 3d blue Heraldic Diagonal Bisect on Part Lettersheet. Mailed Amherst on FEB.26.1856 and addressed to Liverpool England (arrived MAR.11.1856) via Halifax. This large part lettersheet is franked with two singles of #2 and a diagonal bisect of another #2 paying the 7½d rate to England. Stamps are tied to each other and to cover by two oval grid cancels. Couple of light vertical file folds, one of which affects the rightmost stamp. Still a rare franking and desirable cover from the Ratchford correspondence. Accompanied by a 1991 Peter Holcombe certificate. Unitrade CV$5,000.
