Lot 1424 Great Britain 1846 Cover to New Brunswick, franked with six copies of #4, being a single, a pair and a strip of three (Scott Specialized CV for stamps alone in these configurations is $600, and much more on cover). Mailed from Port Arlington (lovely blue c.d.s. dated MAY.12.1846 on front) to “St John’s” (with receiver dated JU?) and two transit datestamps MY 13 and MY 14. There is also a black straightline “MORE TO PAY” on front, beside a fancy “2” due marking. A very clean and attractive cover. Estimate C$150.

Lot 727, 1880 Great Britain two shilling brown Victoria, Sperati forgery, sold for $1380Lot 727 Great Britain #56F 1880 2sh brown Queen Victoria Sperati forgery, a magnificent reproduction of this stamp, made on genuine watermarked (Spray of Rose) paper, with a genuine cancel and perforations. Jean de Sperati was an expert at using a genuine low value stamp from the same issue and removing the printed design, then printing his own design so as to retain the original watermarked paper, postmark and perforations. Very fine, and a rare item by the master forger. Scott catalogue value for genuine would be $3,750. Accompanied by a 2016 Sergio Sismondo certificate. Estimate C$300, sold for $1,200 plus buyer’s premium.

Lot 326, Great Britain 1841 two pence blue used strip of three, watermark small crown, sold for $196Lot 326 Great Britain #4 1841 2d blue Queen Victoria on bluish Paper, Imperforate, Watermark Small Crown, lovely used strip of three, with light 1844 type grid cancels, with large margins along the whole length of the top and bottom, plus showing a large part of both adjoining stamps at right and left. The owner has identified it as plate 3 (unverified by us) and with the “square footed J” variety. Deep, rich colour and extremely fine. S.G. #14, £255. Lot 324 Great Britain #3 1841 1p red brown Queen Victoria Imperforate, on Bluish Paper, mint, with full original gum, hinged. Three large margins and well clear from design at bottom. From position KI, with deep, fresh colour and very fine. SG #8, £800. Scott U$ 625. Sold for C$400 plus buyer’s premium.
