Lot 327, Great Britain 1847 one shilling green Victoria imperf die 2, used block of fourLot 327 Great Britain #5 1847 1sh green Queen Victoria Embossed Imperforate, Die 2, Unwatermarked, a lovely used block of four, with 1844-type numeral cancels and ample to close margins, bright colour on fresh paper, very fine. Deep embossing and two vertical silk threads through each stamp. Accompanied by a 2017 BPA certificate stating “creases and small split at top of stamp 2, small natural exclusion at foot”. The owner has identified it as plate 3 (unverified by us) and with the “square footed J” variety. Deep, rich colour and extremely fine. S.G. #14, £255. Scott CV U$275.

A lovely and clear strike of the numeral 2, properly tying a 1p red imperforate. Vertical fold and reinforcing of back, still a very presentable cover to show off this cancel. S.G. CV £550.

Lot 438, Great Britain 1901 line engraved essay, “Canadian Head”

Lot 438Lot 438 Great Britain Circa 1901 Unadopted Bradbury and Wilkinson Line Engraved Essay of King Edward VII, in brown, on ungummed and unwatermarked wove paper, denominated at 1d. This is also called the “Canadian Head,” as it is identical to Canada’s 1903-1908 King Edward VII definitive issue head design. A block of four of this essay (in blue) sold at a large auction house in England in 2006 for £600. We have not otherwise seen this in any of the important GB or Canadian King Edward VII exhibits or literature. Very fine and rare. Estimate $250.
