Inside the cover are five items, with a two page printed letter dated August 1872, an ad for Colgate soap, a colour card advertising Colgate & Company’s Fine Toilet Soaps, a small yellow illustrated card (for taking notes) from the Novelty Plaster Works and lastly an H.L. Spencer self addressed return envelope (unused). An interesting, and very fine lot, Ex. John Hillson. Estimate $100, sold for C$250.00 plus 15% buyer’s premium.

Lot 1424 Great Britain 1846 Cover to New Brunswick, franked with six copies of #4, being a single, a pair and a strip of three (Scott Specialized CV for stamps alone in these configurations is $600, and much more on cover). Mailed from Port Arlington (lovely blue c.d.s. dated MAY.12.1846 on front) to “St John’s” (with receiver dated JU?) and two transit datestamps MY 13 and MY 14. There is also a black straightline “MORE TO PAY” on front, beside a fancy “2” due marking. A very clean and attractive cover. Estimate C$150.
