Lot 567 Prince Edward Island #2 1861 3d light blue Queen Victoria, Perforated 9, mint with original hinged gum, very well centered and with intact perforations. There is a small toning spot at bottom, still a scarce stamp this nice and very fine. From the Louis Sidney Crosby Collection of Prince Edward Island. Unitrade CV$4,000, sold for $1800 plus buyer’s premium.
Lot 272 Canada #91 1903 5c blue King Edward VII, mint never hinged and fresh, perfectly centered among four large margins, extremely fine. Accompanied by a 2016 Philatelic Foundation certificate grading it as “XF-S 95”. A truly remarkable stamp, for the connoisseur. Unitrade CV$1,400, sold for $2800 plus buyer’s premium.
Three extremely fine mint 1897 Queen Victoria “Jubilees” deserve highlighting. Surely one or more of these is a record price; we’re looking into it.
Lot 193 Canada #55i 1897 6c yellow brown Jubilee, with Re-Entry, mint never hinged, with large, even margins and showing a re-entry in POSTAGE (from position 44). An extremely fine stamp. Accompanied by a 2015 Greene Foundation certificate. Unitrade CV$2,700, sold for $2900 plus buyer’s premium ($3335).
Lot 200 Canada #57 1897 10c brown violet Jubilee, mint never hinged, with four large and even margins, extremely fine. Accompanied by a 2015 Greene Foundation certificate. A remarkable stamp. Unitrade CV$750, sold for $750 plus buyer’s premium ($862.50).
Lot 202 Canada #58 1897 15c steel blue Jubilee, mint never hinged, fresh and extremely fine. Accompanied by a 2017 Greene Foundation certificate. A gorgeous stamp. Unitrade CV$1,200, sold for $2600 plus buyer’s premium ($2990).
Lot 727 Great Britain #56F 1880 2sh brown Queen Victoria Sperati forgery, a magnificent reproduction of this stamp, made on genuine watermarked (Spray of Rose) paper, with a genuine cancel and perforations. Jean de Sperati was an expert at using a genuine low value stamp from the same issue and removing the printed design, then printing his own design so as to retain the original watermarked paper, postmark and perforations. Very fine, and a rare item by the master forger. Scott catalogue value for genuine would be $3,750. Accompanied by a 2016 Sergio Sismondo certificate. Estimate C$300, sold for $1,200 plus buyer’s premium.
