Lot 565 Newfoundland #28 1872 12c pale red brown Queen Victoria cover to England, mailed at Twillingate on MAR.9.1872 (nice black c.d.s. on front), with St John’s transit c.d.s. on back APR.15.1872 and reached Liverpool via British Packet on MAY.19.1872. Few edge creases and minor corner faults, stamp is a real jumbo (with small faults), else a very fine cover. Accompanied by a 2002 APS certificate not mentioning the small faults. Includes an 1891 letter from London with particulars of death sent by his grandson the Sixth Duke. Also a letter to Morgan in a three cent Small Queen envelope from Belleville. Estimate $100, sold for C$160 plus buyer’s premium.

Starting on Monday, we will begin highlighting some of the better and more interesting realizations from the sale. There is much to talk about after a successful sale.
