Lot 193 — Canada 1874 ten cent Small Queen die proof, dull rose lilac

Lot 193Lot 193 Canada 1874 10c die proof in dull rose lilac on watermarked thin wove paper, 24x30mm, with two printing guidelines in each corner, also with very clear watermark showing “188” in thick double-lined numerals (likely part of the year of manufacture), extremely fine. Only three 10c die proofs are recorded in this colour, with the watermarked paper example offered here being probably unique. A lovely showpiece which has graced a number of illustrious collections and destined for the best collection or exhibit.

Lot 133 — Canada 1868 half cent Large Queen trial colour proof in rose

Lot 133Lot 133 Canada #21TCP 1868 ½c Large Queen Trial Colour Die Proof, in rose, on card. A rare proof from the trade sample sheet. The Brigham collection only had examples in green and two brown shades. Very fine. Estimate $4,000.

Lot 174 — Canada “Clipper No. 2” die proof, sold for $518

Lot 174Lot 174 Canada #DP121 BABNCo. Die No. 121 “CLIPPER NO. 2”, 65x109mm. From a consignment of 35 such die proofs. A former employee of British American Bank Note Company was tasked with identifying a number of Die Proofs which were appropriate to being enlarged and framed to serve as decorations in the offices of the firm. The Die Proofs were cut out of the Archival Log Book of BABNCo. and the manuscript notations refer to the percent of enlargement. Estimate $200, sold for $450 plus buyer’s premium.
