Lot 66, Canada 1875 five cent slate green Small Queen, XF NH, sold for C$4,914
Lot 66 Canada #38a 1875 5c Slate Green Small Queen, Perforated 11½ x 12, mint with full original gum, never hinged. A very fresh stamp which has wonderful centering and is extremely fine. A difficult stamp to find in such lovely quality. Accompanied by a 2007 Richard Gratton AIEP certificate and a photocopy of the stunning block of six from which it came. The 5c perforated 11-1/2×12 is one of the most challenging of all Small Queens to locate in premium quality. Its rarity can be traced back to the fact that only a few of the early 5c printings had this perforation measurement, and very few were saved by collectors or otherwise not used. This printing normally displays unevenly applied gum with streaks and/or bubbles, and the example contained in the “Outaouais” collection displays these characteristics. Lot 13 Canada #4v 1852 3d Deep Red Beaver Imperforate on Thick Hard Paper, used with a clear 4-ring #18 cancel from Kingston. This lovely stamp has four large margins, showing part of the next stamp at left and at top, extremely fine. Accompanied by a 2019 Greene Foundation certificate. Unitrade CV$600.

Lot 14 Canada #5 1855 6d Slate Grey Consort Imperforate, mint with full original gum and bright, fresh colour. This stamp has three large to huge margins, bottom margin is irregular, still fine. A very rare mint stamp, especially with full original gum, accompanied by a 2008 Sismondo certificate and a 2011 Greene Foundation certificate. Very few mint 6d Consort retain the overall “bloom” of the stamp offered here, and fewer still retain their original gum 165 years after having been printed. Rsv. $10,000. Lot 157 Canada #MR2D 1915 50c Black Admiral with Two Line WAR TAX Overprint, mint never hinged, very fresh and well centered, extremely fine. A very nice stamp. The 50c War Tax is an elusive stamp, and is rarely found in the superlative quality of the example from the Outaouais Collection. The Unitrade catalogue keeps increasing the NH premium factor for this stamp, and auction realizations for premium examples keep supporting a higher valuation.
