A military cover with slight faults, but obviously of great interest, selling for three times the estimate.

Lot 760Lot 760 Canada 1915 Cover from B.C. to a Soldier in England, re-directed to 4th Battalion, France and then sent back to England as soldier had been wounded. Lot 254, 1927 five cent violet D’Arcy McGee, imperf horizontally block of 20, sold for $3,450

The last of these very appealing blocks from the 1927 Confederation issue:

Lot 254Lot 254 Canada #146c 1927 5c violet D’Arcy McGee, Imperforate Horizontally, mint never hinged upper sheet margin Plate A1 block of 20. The selvedge at top shows a full printer’s imprint plus a cutting arrow at left. A lovely and very rare large multiple, as the Unitrade catalogue footnote states that regular VFNH plate blocks are rare, and that part-perforate plate blocks are very rare, with only 5-10 of any value known. Unitrade also adds that Jephcott and Gates have reported only 250 pairs only of each perforation variety. Fresh and extremely fine. Unitrade CV$3,840, sold for $3,000 plus buyer’s premium.

Lot 374, New Brunswick 1860 ten cent Victoria small die proof, sold for $1,035

Lot 374Lot 374 New Brunswick #9TCi 1860 10c Queen Victoria Small Die Proof in black, on India paper, with four large margins, quite fresh and rare. Minuse & Pratt #9TC1. Undervalued in Unitrade in our opinion due to its rarity and the fact that it is almost never offered for sale. Accompanied by a 2016 Greene Foundation certificate. Unitrade CV$1,000, sold for $900 plus buyer’s premium.
