The 3d sheet shows the “missing I” (£200), “teardrop” (£110) and “extra island” (£225) varieties, as well as a remnant of a “extra dot by oval”. Also, several stamps on each sheet have the “broken arc” variety, the 4d sheet has a perforation variety at lower left caused by a fold-over before perforation. A very fine set of sheets, catalogue value is for all normal single stamps only. Scott CV$1,020, sold for C$950.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Lot 1096, 1828 folded letter with STANSTEAD straightline postmark, Waterloo to Hatley L.C., sold for C$1,111Lot 1096 1828 Folded Letter with STANSTEAD Straightline Postmark, mailed on Dec.25.1828 to the Postmaster of Hatley L.C. The inside is a long three page letter datelined Waterloo Dec.17.1828, and because the post office in Waterloo only opened in 1836, the letter had to be mailed at Stanstead (on Christmas Day), about 50km away. A very fine and clean folded letter with a very fine strike of this rare straightline postmark, with only three or four known. Estimate $300, sold for C$950.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.
