Lot 1410 1927.JUN.27 First Demonstration Flight by the “Moth”, mailed Calcutta on JUN.27 to Stephen Smith in Calcutta, this ½a stationery postcard shows a purple moth cachet plus a purple “Carried By / D.H. Moth, G.E.B.M.O. / Aeroplane” cachet. The back has a note reading “Certified that this has been flown over Calcutta by D.H. Moth G.E.BMO (….)”, signed by E.L. Widdicombe and initialed “W.H.V. (Flight Lieutenant W.H. Vetch). This is a rare item, numbered “2” at bottom left corner out of a total of 11 items flown (10 cards and one cover). From the Pont Collection. Very fine. We note many Oval types used in different colors (including a scarce 1920 BRANCH DEAD LETTER OFFICE G. #MON2b-b7a); some RETURNED FOR WAR TAX Postcards; some unusual association of types; Ambulance covers; various DLO c.d.s., auxiliary markings, etc. A fabulous collection and viewing is strongly recommended to better appreciate the quality and interest of this collection. Lot 12 Canada #4d 3d Red Beaver Imperforate on Cover, mailed from Québec City on SEP.3.1855 to “Hon’ble L.J. Papineau / Monte Bello / Petite Nation” with Monte Bello SEP.5 receiver and Montréal SEP.4 transits on back. This lovely blue cover is franked with a 3d Beaver imperforate, apparently from plate position B53 and on thin paper. Louis Joseph Papineau was a very well known politician.
