Lot 116 Canada #41 1890s 3c vermilion Small Queen, mint bottom margin single, with full original gum, never hinged. Four large margins, fresh and extremely fine. Accompanied by a 2016 Greene Foundation certificate stating “tiny natural paper flaw upper centre.” Unitrade CV$240, sold for C$375 plus buyer’s premium.

Lot 915, Canada 1877 Small Queen mourning cover to Scotland, sold for $196

lot-915Lot 915 Canada #35vii, 37ii 1877 10c Pre-U.P.U. Double Weight Cover to Scotland, mourning cover franked with 1c (two pairs) and 3c (2 singles), perforated 11½x12, tied by duplex cancels, paying the 10c double weight pre-U.P.U. preferred rate. Mailed at Québec AUG.10.1877 to Glasgow, Scotland (AUG.23). Faults, including missing backflap, edge wear, small tears and ageing, still a scarce franking for this rate. Estimate $150, sold for C$170 plus buyer’s premium.

An interesting one that sold for our full estimate.

Lot 99Lot 99 Canada 35/39 1880s 1c to 6c Small Queens with Unofficial Overprints, with diagonal OFFICIAL overprints on 3c, 5c (faulty and repaired) and 6c, plus vertical OFFICIAL overprints on 1c to 6c values, for a total of eight used stamps. Apparently created by Hechler to be used during the Riel Rebellion, these were not authorized but were tolerated by the postal authorities. Scarce. Estimate C$350, Sold for C$300 plus buyer’s premium.
