Lot 449 — Canada Consular Fee five dollar mint block of 35, realized $1323
Our Canada Revenue section had a rarely-seen offering: several lots of mint Consular Fee stamps in large multiples. According to BNAPS.org: “Consular fee stamps were used abroad at Canadian embassies, consulates, missions and other offices where varying levels of consular services were provided. These services included the following items: letters to foreign authorities, identity and travel papers, verification of signatures, attestation of documents, administration of oaths, translation of documents, issuance of various certificates and administration of estates.” These items attracted spirited bidding, and given the many second and third chances to acquire a nice cache of items, we trust that no interested bidder went home empty-handed.
