Lot 51 Canada 1859 Prince Consort vignette die proof essayLot 51 Canada #17P 1859 Prince Consort Vignette Die Proof Essay, with image measuring 18 x 22 mm and showing what appears to be an exact reverse image of that appearing on the issued stamp in 1859. Die sunk measures 51 x 69 mm and is mounted on a larger card. There are four plate numbers beneath the image: a crossed-out “P” number, two crossed-out “V” numbers and a final adopted “V” number. A striking and rare item, and ideal for Cents issue collectors. Estimate $2,000, sold for C$1,600 plus buyer’s premium.

Lot 10Lot 10 Canada #4, 5 1857 3d red and 6d slate grey Imperforates, on folded letter mailed from Montreal (dated AUG.4.1857 – note spelling on cancel MONTHEAL) to Quebec City. Both 4 margin stamps are tied by 4-ring #21 cancels. A lovely triple weight rate cover, which has had its 3d stamp removed to iron out a crease to improve appearance, then replaced. Ex. Carrington and Daniel Cantor collections and accompanied by a 2011 Greene Foundation certificate. We note that because the stamp was removed to iron out a crease, the certificate is pink as per Greene Foundation regulations. Estimate $3,500
