The cover has a lavishly illustrated embossed corner card advertising for the Newbury & Birely company of Hamilton in blue-black, and is franked with an extremely fine example of the 3d red Beaver with four large and balanced margins, neatly tied by a crisp 4-ring #16 obliterator which has an RF 7 on Pence issues (only used in the Pence era), and an early example, as the first 4-ring numeral known is dated from March 1857. A lovely cover in all respects, which possesses many desirable attributes, extremely fine and easily worth more than our starting price. Ex Guilford (1994), Carrington (2002) and Cantor (2011). This folded cover (no letter inside) is franked with a very fine and fresh, four margin 6d Consort on laid paper, cancelled with a light target cancel. There are a “CANADA” in arc, a “10” in circle and a “PAID” markings, all in red on front, alongside the red despatch datestamp. A very fine and appealing cross-border cover, with “Juliard” owner’s handstamp on back, also ex. “Carrington” (2002) and Daniel Cantor (2011) collections, and accompanied by a 2011 Greene Foundation certificate. Lot 10Lot 10 Canada #4, 5 1857 3d red and 6d slate grey Imperforates, on folded letter mailed from Montreal (dated AUG.4.1857 – note spelling on cancel MONTHEAL) to Quebec City. Both 4 margin stamps are tied by 4-ring #21 cancels. A lovely triple weight rate cover, which has had its 3d stamp removed to iron out a crease to improve appearance, then replaced. Ex. Carrington and Daniel Cantor collections and accompanied by a 2011 Greene Foundation certificate. We note that because the stamp was removed to iron out a crease, the certificate is pink as per Greene Foundation regulations. Estimate $3,500
