Lot 8 Canada #2b 1851 6d greyish purple Consort Imperforate, on Laid Paper, With No Visible Laid Lines, used with a target cancel, margins are all clear, from close at bottom to large at left and top, fine-very fine. This unlisted paper variety is well known by specialists, with some arguing that it should deserve its own catalogue number. 1851 3d red Beaver Imperforate, on Laid Paper, used with bold centrally struck target cancel, very clear laid lines, with very large and even margins all around, very fine. Accompanied by a 2001 Greene Foundation certificate. Unitrade CV C$1,600.

Lot 6 Canada #1a 1851 3d orange red Beaver Imperforate, on Laid Paper, a lovely used horizontal strip of four, with ideal and clear target cancels on each stamp. Margins are mostly very large all around (close in two places) and the laid lines are quite clear, very fine. Accompanied by a 2015 Greene Foundation certificate stating “tiny tear between 1st and 2nd stamp, vertical folds between two stamps”. Lot 7, Canada 1851 six pence Consort laid paper pair on cover Kingston to Toronto, sold for $1093
Lot 7 Canada #2b 1851 6d Laid Paper Consort pair on cover, mailed to Toronto (weak receiver on back) with a Kingston Steam Boat Letter datestamp on front dated JUN.1.1854 (year slugs are reversed). This large cover is franked with a vertical right sheet margin pair of the 6d brown purple Consort Imperforate on laid paper (rich colour but faults), paying 4 times the domestic rate, or 12d. Several creases and a few repaired tears, still a scarce franking and catalogue value for two fine stamps alone is $20,000. Accompanied by a 2015 Greene Foundation certificate. Estimate $2,000, sold for C$950 plus buyer’s premium.

We begin our highlights from Auction #18 with one of the cover items. We were not surprised to see this rare stamp do well.
Lot 8 Canada #1iii 1851 3d red Beaver Imperforate on Laid Paper, with Major Re-Entry from Pane A, position 47. Unused (no gum), with four large, fairly even margins and a very clear re-entry. This is an exceptionally rare stamp. There are approximately 20 unused Canada number ones compared with at least four times as many unused twelve penny blacks. Only two of these have a major re-entry and A47 is the ultimate re-entry. The stamp has tiny stains at upper left and a trifle bit of soiling at upper right plus a vertical crease at far left in the margin only. A major rarity of Canadian philately, with only two known examples and accompanied by a 2014 Greene Foundation certificate. Catalogue value is for a regular stamp without the re-entry only, and used examples are catalogued at close to double the value of regular, non-re entered stamps. Unitrade for regular is $50,000. Sold for $21,000 plus buyer’s premium.
