Lot 74 Canada #37P4 1870s 3c rose Small Queen Plate Proof, block of four on card-mounted India paper, with deep rich colour, large margins and extremely fine. Proof blocks of the Small Queens are rare and command significant premiums over the price of four single copies. A rare opportunity to obtain a rare item, as it is thought that only a very few blocks exist (among them this one, and one from the Cantor collection which was sold by our firm for a hammer of $4,400). Accompanied by a 2016 Greene Foundation certificate. Estimate $3,000, sold for C$2,600 plus buyer’s premium.
