Lot 676 Collection of Lunenburg County Postal History, written-up and displayed alphabetically on pages in a thick binder. There is a total of 156 covers and cards, mainly from the Edward and Admiral era, and we note covers including some with corner cards, picture postcards, a few registered, and a large number of small town postmarks, many of which have closed post offices today. Overall fine to very fine, we have scanned a few of the pages online. Estimate $300, sold for C$625.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Lot 774 Group of Over 170 World War I Military Items, note patriotic, a few with enclosures, Canadians in U.K. camps, orderly rooms, FPOs dates on Armistice Day, also military camps Borden, Niagara, Petawawa and London, huge range of Field Post Office markings. Widely varying condition, expect faulty items, but still an interesting and overall fine lot. Scans give a sampling. Estimate $300, sold for C$800.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Lot 723 Newfoundland #3 1858 3d Triangular on Cover, mailed from Bona Vista (SEP.6.1858 c.d.s. on back) to Carbonear (receiver on front) and franked with a large margined 3d imperforate (showing two neighboring stamps) just tied by pen cancel to small cover with red wax seal on backflap. Vertical creases and staining, still a scarce franking and fine cover with a catalogue value of $3,000 in Unitrade. Estimate $500, sold for C$1,250.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Lot 73 Canada Ca. 1869-70 Louis Riel Essay in Red, imperforate with margin just cut into at top, on vertically wove paper, reading “Republique Canadienne / Canadian Republic,” with no denomination. Much has been written about this essay, including that it might have been produced by Henry Robinson, of the New Nation newspaper for the Provisional Government PM, A. Bannatyne, or even printed by the foreman of the “Norwester,” a newspaper in Fort Garry. A rare early Canadian essay, with only eight to ten copies known in this colour, small black spot on front, still fine. Accompanied by a 1997 Saskatoon Stamp Centre Guarantee of Authenticity. Estimate C$1,000, sold for $2,600 plus 17% buyer’s premium.
