Lot 373, Canada “baby sisters” experimental essay, circa 1967, sold for $276

Lot 373Lot 373 Canada Centennial Baby Sisters circa 1967, Baby Sisters Experimental Essay showing two young girls. Four imperforate between pairs, in a mix of black, blue and green with Davac gum. In 1967, British American Bank Note Company was awarded the contract to print the Centennial issue booklets using a new printing machine, a Goebel press, which could print booklets of multi-coloured stamps in one operation. They tested the new press by printing test booklets using a design referred to as the “Baby Sisters.” Very fine. Estimate $100, sold for C$240 plus buyer’s premium.

Lot 174 — Canada “Clipper No. 2” die proof, sold for $518

Lot 174Lot 174 Canada #DP121 BABNCo. Die No. 121 “CLIPPER NO. 2”, 65x109mm. From a consignment of 35 such die proofs. A former employee of British American Bank Note Company was tasked with identifying a number of Die Proofs which were appropriate to being enlarged and framed to serve as decorations in the offices of the firm. The Die Proofs were cut out of the Archival Log Book of BABNCo. and the manuscript notations refer to the percent of enlargement. Estimate $200, sold for $450 plus buyer’s premium.
