Lot 295 — Canada three cent brown Admiral on very thin wove paper, sold for $345

Lot 295Lot 295 Canada #108var 3c brown Admiral Printed on a Very Thin Wove Paper (thinner than the 7c #114iii). The pale shade is partially the result of the printing plate being slightly under-inked. The first example of this paper we have seen, mint never hinged, fine-very fine centering. Estimate $200, sold for $300.00 plus buyer’s premium.

Lot 253Lot 253 Canada #104 1911 1c dark green Admiral Plate Strip of Five. A lower Plate 97 strip, with major re-entry on second stamp (Marler 97LR92); extra short vertical line in left numeral tablet beside the vertical line on first stamp. Mint never hinged. Estimate $200, sold for $450 plus buyer’s premium.

Lot 283 — Canada two cent green Admiral strip of four, wet printing marginal strip, realized $265

Lot 283Lot 283 Canada #107 1922 2c green Admiral Strip of Four. Wet printing left marginal strip. Top half of pyramid lines in left margin opposite bottom. Also phantom pyramid lines in left margin opposite top two stamps. The pyramid lines are 6.5 mm to the left of the stamp designs which means it must come from one of plates 175, 176, 180, 181. Stamp 2 has a scratch to the left of the 2 in the right numeral tablet. Unused (no gum) and scarce. Estimate $100, sold for $230 plus buyer’s premium.

Lot 333 — Canada seven cent Admiral die proof in unissued orange colour, realized $1265

One of many good realizations from the Hillside Collection of Canada Admirals, this one a discovery.

Lot 333 Canada #113P 1912 7c Admiral Die Proof, on India on card, in unissued orange colour, measuring 39 x 24 mm. Die number and 23 mm printer’s imprint at bottom. Only two proofs in this colour are recorded, both were in the Christie sale of ABN proof material. Not mentioned in Minuse and Pratt or on Library and Archives web site. There are two diagonal creases and two nicks at top and right, still a major Admiral rarity. Estimate $500, SOLD for $1,100 plus premium.
