Lot 966, France #163c var, Realized $546

Specialized worldwide stamps often inspire strong bidding. The Scott catalogue prices a full booklet pane of the 10 centimes Sower at $3200, so one might expect a single to sell at about $320. Not so. This never hinged single had three book bids, but they were outbid on the floor for a hammer of $475.

Lot 143, Used Canada #73, Realized $276

This very fine used stamp with a dated cancel attracted some very strong bids. When it opened at a hammer price of twice catalogue, neither the telephone, nor the internet, nor the floor challenged the top bid in the book, and it sold at $240.

Lot 828, Falkland Islands 1960 set of Fifteen, Realized $161

Most of the modern mint never hinged Commonwealth sets sold for very solid prices. This Falklands set reached $161, about 90% of the catalogue value. The two lots of South Georgia did even better with both selling for more than full catalogue.
