Lot 446, Canada 1851 twelve pence black Queen Victoria on laid paper, VF used

The second part of The Athena Collection, Sale 45B, begins this morning.

Lot 446 Canada #3 1851 12d Black Queen Victoria Imperforate on Laid Paper, used with (slightly lightened) centrally struck target cancel, with four margins including including part of the next stamp at top and a large sheet margin at right. In fact, the Siegel census does not list another used stamp with a wide sheet margin. This lovely stamp shows strong laid lines, not only on the back but also on the front, very fine. It is estimated that only about one third of the used examples of this stamp are sound.

Ex Fred Jarrett collection.
Accompanied by a 1959 Philatelic Foundation certificate and a 2006 Greene Foundation certificate, which is pink solely as a result of the lightened cancel.
