Lot 728, Canada 1868 Gore District Mutual Fire Insurance advertising cover Galt to Derenham, three cent Large Queen on laid paperLot 728 Canada #33 1868 3c Large Queen on Laid Paper on Advertising Cover, from the Gore District Fire Insurance Co., mailed from Galt (OCT.14.1868 duplex) to Derenham, with Ingersoll (OCT.14) and Tilsonburg (OCT.15) transits on back. The stamp is a fine centered single on laid paper (tiny tear and corner crease), which was removed to confirm and placed back. A very fine and attractive cover, with accompanying 1991 Greene Foundation certificate. Unitrade CV$2,500.

Lot 1146, Canada, group of 55 three cent Large Queen franked covers, 1868-1870, sold for C$1,053Lot 1146 Canada #25 Group of 55 3c Large Queen Franked Covers, 1868 to 1870, all but three are domestic mailings, with 50 single frankings and 5 double weight rates (three are franked with a pair and three are cross-border), all unchecked as per varieties, papers, shades, etc. A large variety of despatch offices, and great interest in postmarks including duplex, ring numerals (2-ring #s 5, 6, 7, 58), c.d.s., RPO, a WAY LETTER, NS grids, also noted an 1868 Barrie registered cover, a mourning cover and some advertising covers. Mixed condition, with faults to a varying degree to most of the covers (or stamps), still overall fine and well worth a close look. Estimate $500, sold for C$900.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Howard & Son, Halifax embossing on backflap) is franked with a 1c yellow orange Large Queen, just tied by a fine strike of the 2-ring 4/ Addressed to Annapolis Town, with “circular” written in red and accompanied by a 2000 letter from Parks Canada explaining who the addressee was, and dating the cover between 1868-1872. Also a 2c green LQ, two 3c LQs (both faulty) and a 1c orange Small Queen, each with fine strikes. Estimate $100, sold for C$275 plus buyer’s premium.
