Lot 995 Canada #MR2Bi 1915 Registered Admiral Early War Tax Cover to Egypt, mailed from Windsor Ontario on APR.19.1915 to the Indian Expeditionary Force in Egypt, through Toronto (APR.20 transit), with a Detroit, Michigan return address. The cover is franked with an MR2Bi (5c blue Admiral overprinted INLAND REVENUE WAR TAX) on front and six MR1 War Tax stamps on back totaling 8c. The overprinted War Tax stamps were issued to be used on fiscal documents, but a few rare examples are known used postally. Bit of aging and open on three sides for display, still a scarce franking and destination, plus an early use of the War Tax issues (rate in effect April 15th). Estimate C$350, sold for C$650.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Lot 759 Canada #35, F1 1888 Registered 1c + 2c Drop Letter to Dead Letter Office, mailed to and from Ottawa on JUL.9.1888 (boxed registration datestamp), the recipient could not be found, as evidenced by “could not be found on…” manuscript note, with octagonal “NOT CALLED FOR / OTTAWA / JUL.31.1888” datestamp. Then sent to Dead Letter Office and received there on AUG.6, (large c.d.s. on back) then with AUG.9 large broken circle on back. This very fine cover is franked with a 1c SQ and 2c RLS (both tied by rosette fancy cancels), paying for the drop letter registered rate. Estimate C$250.

Lot 671 1884 Whitemouth Keewatin Small Queen Registered Cover front on a larger piece, probably a parcel wrapper. Mailed from Whitemouth KEE to Toledo, Ohio on FEB.12.1884, a desirable example of this better postmark (recorded used from 1881 to 1886 only). Franking is made up of a 1c and 2c Small Queen plus a 5c registration for the cross-border registration rate. A rare item, Whitemouth was transferred over to Manitoba in 1882 but continued to use their KEE datestamp. Estimate $200, sold for C$450.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

The cover is franked with a fairly scarce combination of the 2c and 6c Jubilee issues, both tied or cancelled by four “C” in circle (House of Commons?) cancels. Very fine and ex Steinhart and priced by him at $500. Estimate $200, sold for C$700.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.
