Lots & Collections Today

The first two afternoons of Auction #11 saw some terrific realizations. Noteworthy were the Canada Admirals and Consular Stamps, and the used New Zealand. Unaudited realizations can be seen on Stamp Auction Network.

Malta Collection
ex-Lot 1736 Malta Collection

Today we offer Collections, Large Lots & Remainders. We have begun a trend towards single lots of nice collections that could certainly have been divided into separate offerings with some exceptional individual stamps. Examples are Malta, France and Norway. Canada and Newfoundland also have intact collections, as does United States. Lots 1761 to 1806 showcase African and Latin American single country new issues from the 1970s to 2005. We have found that these collections do surprisingly well on their own, so check the Opening Bids on Stamp Auction Network before placing your bid.

Session 6 begins at 1:00pm. An error on the section page of our printed catalogue had the sale beginning at 2:00pm following Literature (which was called yesterday afternoon), but this information has been corrected in all other channels.

Auction 11, November 13-15, 2012

We are pleased to present our Public Auction #11, taking place at our
Ottawa premises on November 13-15, 2012.

Auction #11 starts with a wonderful selection of the scarce Canada
pence issues.  Seldom indeed have there been four of the perforated six
penny offered in one auction. Complementing the classic issues of
Canada are some of the great mint stamps of the provinces: the
imperforate ten cent of Vancouver Island and the first issue of
Nova Scotia are two of the highlights. The whole of the Victorian
era is strong and one cannot fail to be impressed with the lovely
mint Large Queens as well as some very rare stamps. The three Kings
period offers gems such as a set of the Quebec Issue large Die Proofs
and then into the Admirals beginning with the Madukhar Belkhode
International Gold Medal Collection. Rarities abound through the
period and then throughout the Elizabethan period with the greatest
rarity being the inverted $2 Normal School which is quite a bit
scarcer than the inverted Seaway. Our back of the book offerings are
strong, highlighted by possibly the finest of the inverted $3 Third
Bill issue and the tremendous offering of Consular Fee stamps with
an uncatalogued variety, rare imprint blocks, and even full sheets.

Sparks Auction #11 PDF CatalogueDay Two of the auction has four sessions. Dominating the Commonwealth
is the Geoff Leech offering of New Zealand. Many of these lots are
opportunities to obtain quite rare but not necessarily expensive
varieties which were acquired over a lifetime by a very keen student
of New Zealand. Worldwide offers a broad selection from such diverse
places as China, Estonia, France, Germany, Greenland, and Thailand.
Postal History has a handful of lovely covers with rare and expensive
stamps. Of greater interest to many will be the groupings, in which
there are treasures to be acquired. Literature — which merits a
separate section — is bulky (seven full bookcases) but also contains
many scarce and sought after reference works.

Our third day offers the strongest group of lots and collections ever.
One lot is Malta essentially complete which might have been offered
as several dozen lots; another lot of France which has a short and
modest description but an astounding catalogue value of E55,000;
Norway has many strong lots; and of course Canada is very well
represented. Viewers should plan on spending more time than usual
to appreciate the depth and quality of the lots.

The sale is now posted on Stamp Auction Network at:
