Lot 436, Newfoundland 1932-37 five cent Caribou sheet margin pair with lathework, sold for C$263Lot 436 Newfoundland #191P 5c Caribou, Die II Plate Proof in Red Violet, a left sheet margin pair, printed on “bookend” bond paper with blue “moiré” lines on back. The sheet margin at left shows lathework, and the stamps measure 20.4 mm wide (as opposed to 21 mm wide for Waterlow printings). Rare, with only 50 pairs recorded, and only 10 of those with lathework. Unitrade CV$300, sold for C$225.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Mint never hinged, from bottom right of pane (straight edge at right), and with the three left most stamps having the full lathework (Type A). Position 100 stamp has Plate A8 inscription as well as a clear cutting arrow. A remarkably fresh block with all stamps being very fine centered, and a showpiece.
