Lot 912 Canada 1867 cover mailed by Thomas D’Arcy McGee, being a cover with House of Commons Canada large crown shield handstamp in red, next to a red serifed and italic FREE inside two horizontal lines. The cover is datestamped Ottawa C.W NOV.18.1867 and endorsed at bottom left “TDMcGee” in black pen, addressed to Henry Morgan. Small opening tear on back, still a lovely example of Thomas D’Arcy McGee’s signature. Accompanied by a long Ottawa newspaper article (from 2017) describing his life and then assassination in 1868. Estimate $150, sold for C$900 plus buyer’s premium.
