Registered Cover to England, mailed from Ottawa on (FEB.10 boxed registration datestamps) to Birmingham (FEB.19 receiver) through Liverpool (FEB.19 transit), franked with a single 10c QV Leaf, neatly tied by an Ottawa roller, paying the 5c U.P.U. letter rate plus 5c registration fee. A scarce in-period single use of this value on a very fine cover. Ex Horace Harrison (2003) and illustrated in Harrison, Arfken and Lussey’s Canada’s Registered Mail 1802-1909 on page 349. Estimate $500, sold for C$600.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Lot 91, Canada 1900 seven cent Numeral Registered cover Québec to SingaporeBack of Lot 91, Canada 1900 seven cent Numeral Registered cover Québec to SingaporeLot 91 Canada 1900 7c Empire Registered Rate Numeral Cover to Singapore, a 1c QV stationery envelope mailed from St. Roch de Québec (FEB.9 c.d.s. free strike) to Singapore, Straits Settlements (MAR.18 receiver) through Québec City (FEB.9 transit) and London, England (FEB.22 oval registration transit). The cover was uprated with a single 6c QV Numeral to pay for the 2c Imperial Penny Postage rate plus the 5c registration fee. Combinations or uprating were necessary to pay this rate until the 7c Numeral was issued in December 1902. Very fine and ex Horace Harrison (2000) and Don Shorting. Estimate C$750.

Lot 472, Canada 1876 eight cent blue Registered, London c.d.s. receiver, earliest known use, sold for C$6,900Lot 472 Canada #F3 1876 8c blue Registration Stamp, a used single with two strikes of a LONDON / PAID c.d.s. receiver in red dated DEC.10.1875, fine. Harrison states on page 293 that the 8c RLS stamps were available by October 1875, but that none are known used before March 2, 1876, so this is a major discovery. To put it in perspective, the earliest recorded 2c RLS is dated DEC.13.1875. A rare and desirable stamp which also happens to show part of the counter “8” at top. From the Azilda Collection. Lot 1307Lot 1307 Canada #30, F1, F2, F3 1880 15c Registered Cover to New Zealand, franked with a 15c Large Queen plus a 2c, 5c and 8c Registration stamps. Mailed Bradford Ont. JUN.26.1880 to New Zealand, via Toronto, Windsor and San Francisco (where it was delayed for 28 days). Received at Nelson, New Zealand on AUG.28.1880. Cover is open on three sides, Ex Horrace Harrison, fabricated by him, illustrated on p. 337 of his book and still on one of his exhibit pages. Estimate $150, realized $1350 plus premium.
