Lot 3560, 1893 WESTON ONT. squared circle on cover, sold for $402Lot 3560 WESTON ONT. squared circle, a very fine (light) strike AU 31/93 ties a 3c Small Queen to a cover mailed to “Cumberland House, North West Territory” (SP 2/93 broken circle on back). The addressee’s address was crossed out, and a Hamilton address added. The cover then went to Ottawa (squared circle on front dated FE 9/94) and then to Hamilton (FE 10/94 receiver on back). There is also a Prince Albert SASK c.d.s. on back SP 5/93. The Weston strike is the earliest recorded date for this hammer. A few small faults, else very fine. Lot 1265, Bermuda 1882 cover Hamilton to Flatts with one pence pale rose, on page with additional material

lot-1265Lot 1265 Bermuda 1882 cover, Hamilton to Flatts, mailed at Hamilton (blue OCT.28.1882 #1 duplex), franked with a 1d pale rose QV (small fault) and addressed to Villa Monticello in Flatts Bermuda, with black duplex #13 receiver (catalogue # K3a) on back. Intra-Island mail is very rare from this period, and this is a very nice example, with two fairly clear postmarks. The owner (Geoff Newman) paid $1,700 for this cover in 2009. The cover is presented on a well written-up page which also includes two different stamps with a #13 duplex (catalogue #K1) as well as another with a nice #15 (catalogue #K3a). The cover is accompanied by a 1980 B.P.A. certificate. Estimate C$1,000.

The card has a colourful depiction of “Rule Britannia, Rule the Waves, etc. with a woman warrior holding a British shield, a lion and a ship. Franked with a 1c Queen Victoria Numeral. A lovely card, very fine. Estimate $150.

Few minor edge tears, still a very rare and desirable cover. (Unitrade 40, F2)

An outstanding registered cover to China with a unique franking. We are aware of only three registered Small Queen covers to China, only two of which have a 5c RLS.
