Lot 142 Canada #30iii 1868 15c grey Large Queen with Pawnbroker Variety, mint with original, hinged gum. Fresh colour and a very nice example of this variety. Extremely fine and accompanied by a 1997 Greene Foundation certificate. (Since the certificate was issued, the blind perf at left has been removed.) Unitrade CV$2,500, sold for $1,700 plus buyer’s premium.

Lot 916Lot 916 USA#63, 68, 72, 76, 1865 US to England Part Cover, with a very colourful franking of four different issues totaling $1.06. Stamps are tied by dotted circular cork cancels in black and there are several other postmarks in red, including a London transit datestamp dated AUG.11.1865, a New York Packet Paid cds, a “48” rate handstamp and a postmark with “..supplementary…”. A very nice item. Estimate $1,000, sold for $850 plus buyer’s premium.

Mint never hinged, from bottom right of pane (straight edge at right), and with the three left most stamps having the full lathework (Type A). Position 100 stamp has Plate A8 inscription as well as a clear cutting arrow. A remarkably fresh block with all stamps being very fine centered, and a showpiece.
