Floor Sale February 3, 2024

Our 6th public Floor Sale will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at our office at 1770 Woodward Drive in Ottawa. This in-person sale has 102 lots of stamps, covers, collections, face value postage, philatelic literature and collecting supplies in 153 cartons. In-person viewing starts at 8:00 a.m. EST and runs until the room is re-set for the start of bidding at 2:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary on sale day. Viewing these treasure boxes is essential, as we know there will be many “finds” in this sale. The Lot List is available to view and print.

2 2 Stamps Two cartons with many thousands of worldwide used in 6 albums, including a thick Citation album with many countries better represented, a used Canada collection from Victorian era onward, brand new Lighthouse binder, etc. Could have a number of finds.
3 1 Stamps/Covers Box containing an assortment of clean Canada never hinged and first day cover material. With roughly 500 first day covers from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, with roughly $50 to $100 of face value mint. Also includes stamps cataloguing $10 and up. Nice stuff here.
4 1 Stamps Large plastic tub with many thousands of primarily used worldwide stamps, including 2 red boxes of material, noting PRChina from the 1950s onward. Lots of sorting, with potential reward for the patient collector.
5 1 Stamps Collection of roughly 150 mint never hinged worldwide souvenir sheets in 6 Fleetwood albums, along with some USA mint material. Saw some nice PRChina, British Commonwealth, etc. Nice and clean lot.
6 2 Covers Collection of many hundreds of Canada first day covers in 9 albums. Saw private cachet material up to the 1990s, with single, sets, and some souvenir sheet frankings. Nice and clean group!
7 2 Covers Collection of several hundred United States first day covers in 12 albums. Neatly organized with single and sets frankings, generally from the 1970s to the 1990s. Clean and fresh material.
8 3 Covers Three bankers boxes containing many hundreds of Topical first day covers. A nice and clean lot covering a variety of topical themes, including planes, trains, and automobiles. A real “Candy” of a lot.
9 1 Stamps Large plastic bin filled with worldwide mint and used in several albums and photo albums, noting USA Year sets, along with some supplies, stamps in small boxes, etc. Worth a look.
10 1 Stamps Large carton of thousands of used worldwide stamps, mostly British Commonwealth, noting South Africa, K.U.T., to name just two, in 6 stockbooks and loose material.
11 1 Stamps Carton containing thousands of mint and used worldwide stamps. The strength of the lot is a neatly organized collection / accumulation of mint and used worldwide stamps (A to Z countries), in over 100 Vario style stock pages, with sets, part sets, noting Europe, British Commonwealth, etc. Note Victorian era onwards, generally to the 1960s. There will be finds here, we are sure.
12 1 Stamps Carton containing many hundreds of worldwide stamps in 8 stockbooks / albums, noting early USA, topical possibilities, etc.
13 2 Canada Post Tins / Supplies Two bankers boxes of interesting material, including 4 complete “Anniversary Golf Can” sets with shirt, tees, and 3 golf balls (sizes Adult M (x2), Adult XL (x2)), along with a complete “Cycling Souvenir Can” with Adult XL t-shirt, water bottle, and post card. The lot also comes with Lighthouse binders, and more. Add the golf cans to your golfing gear (or weapons of mass frustration). Original retail price for the cans was over $200.
14 2 Stamps Two cartons with many thousands of mint and used United States in 7 album / binders. A cursory check notes material from the 1860s onwards, including sets, sheets, and a really nice selection of back of the book material (includes revenues, seals, cinderallas, and more). Saw used Star Wars sheet, etc. Plenty of potential in here!
15 1 Stamps Large carton of thousands of primarily used worldwide stamps in over 10 albums / binders. Saw early Canada among many others.
16 2 Stamps Two cartons with many thousands of mint and used worldwide stamps in several albums / binders / stockbooks. Note mostly European countries, along with topical and thematic possibilities.
17 1 Stamps Large carton containing many thousands of used Canada and United States in 6 file drawers. A cursory check notes material post-1900 material, and could be a good source of postmarks, values, etc.
18 2 Postal History Two cartons containing many hundreds of Canada and worldwide covers, noting commercial and first day covers, stampede covers, balloon flights, and WWII patriotic covers. Saw a few covers retailing $10 and up, so some finds in here.
19 5 Postal History Five small boxes containing many thousands of United States cut squares, and a box of covers, all ranging from the 1940s onwards. A nice opportunity to collect different towns and postmark types – suitable for topical and thematic collections.
20 1 Supplies Carton containing 4 gently used Lighthouse stockbooks, along with a box of many thousands of used Canada, neatly organized by issue, in several hundred glassines.
21 2 Stamps Two large cartons containing many thousands of worldwide mint and used stamps in 10 stockbooks, loose material in envelopes, glassines, and more. Slight tobacco odor, with many possible finds, from an old-time collection.
22 2 Stamps Two cartons containing many thousands of worldwide mint and used stamps in 6 albums / stockbooks. We estimate $100 face value Canada (1970s-1980s mint material), lots of mint sets stamps in hundreds of glassines in boxes, roughly 50 opened and unopened Bermuda envelopes from the Philatelic Service with stamps inside. Slight tobacco odor, with many finds possible, from an old time collection.
23 1 Stamps Box with many thousands of worldwide mint and used stamps, in 3 old-time albums. Best is an International album (Junior Edition) from 1924, with many early issues and better representation from Europe and the Middle East. Worth a look as there is good catalogue value here.

25 1 Stamps Group of 5 Annual Collections from the 1990s-2000, from Australia, Canada, China, Italy (x2), along with a souvenir Australia cover. A super clean lot, a few collections still sealed, and a nice addition to any collection.
26 1 Covers Carton containing roughly 1,225 Canada commercial covers, vast majority 1930s onward, noting corner cards (a few illustrated), c.d.s, duplex, broken circle, slogan postmarks etc, along with some small towns. Condition is mixed to better.

35 3 Stamps Three 2-drawer metal file boxes with dealer’s stock of used Canada from Scott #14 to 411 and back of the book #C1 to OC9 in glassines, identified and sorted by the owner with 1 to more than 25 stamps in each. We saw some Cents, Large Queens and Small Queens and representation of other issues in the range, the earlies in mixed condition. Also saw Revenues (Quebec, Postal Scrip), a Semi-Official Airmail and some cut squares from Postal Stationery.
36 3 Stamps Three 2-drawer metal file boxes with dealer’s stock of thousands of mint Canada sorted in glassines by the owner with 1 to more than 30 stamps in each. We saw denominations from 1c to 25c. Surely contains more than $200 in face value.
37 1 Postal History 25 covers and cards from India and Pakistan, including States, generally ranging from the 1930s-1960s. Some interesting postmarks.
38 2 Stamps Two bankers boxes with retired dealer stock in roughly 30x 3-ring small stockbooks, containing a few thousand stamps, well organized, in dealer pages. We note loads of British Commonwealth, including better Australia (saw ‘Roos, etc.), Great Britain, many Victorian issues, and many stamps cataloguing $5 and up. Definitely worth a look!
39 2 Stamps Two small plastic tubs containing many thousands of worldwide stamps in 102 cards and dealer pages. Note many better values, lots of British Commonwealth, United States, etc. Quick check noted items priced at $10 and up, so closer check could reveal more finds.
40 3 Stamps Three large cartons of many thousands of stamps, primarily mint and used Canada, generally from 1900s to the 1970s. Note some dealer stock, etc.
41 2 Postal History Two large cartons of over 1,000 worldwide commercial and first day covers. One box contains primarily Canada first days, with the second box containing censor covers, commercial mail, various rates, etc.
42 1 Stamps An old-time used worldwide collection in “The Lincoln Stamp Album”, with many hundreds of stamps, the vast majority pre-1950, noting China, Japan, British Commonwealth, and more. Could be good for postmarks, etc.

48 2 Postcards One carton with over 1,500 worldwide postcards into the 1970s. We saw real photo, advertising, hotel, tourist souvenirs, etc. A good project for the intrepid sorter, with value to be found within.
49 2 Postcards Two cartons with more than 2,000 worldwide mint and used postcards from the early 20th century to the 1970s and a few beyond that, including real photo cards, illustrated, advertising, etc. We saw GB Registered cards and Canadian Postal Stationery from Jubilees to QEII. Also includes an interesting group of roughly 75 stereo viewcards.
50 1 Stamps Carton with many thousands of mint and used United States, including a collection ranging from the 1860s onwards. Noted Black Jack and a few other Civil War issues, along with mint postage, and more. Lots of value here.
51 1 Stamps Small box containing a used Ireland collection in several Vario-style stock pages. 1920s onward, with owner’s catalogue value exceeding $400.

75 1 Stamps/Supplies Box containing worldwide mint and used in 102 cards, stockbook, and dealer supplies. Also includes an interesting dealer book with mint Canada, noting Jubilees, Leafs & Numerals, Admirals on up to the War Issue (unfortunately stuck down on each dealer page). Still, worth a look.

89 2 Supplies Two bankers boxes containing ten 60 page gently used stockbooks. The stockbooks are filled with accumulations of used Canada from the 1950s to the 2000s, however, the stockbooks alone are worth several hundred dollars.
90 2 Stamps Two large cartons containing many thousands of used Canada, mainly organized by topic or theme, noting boats, art, animals, among many others. Well organized in several smaller boxes, plastic tubs. Not many high denomination used (up to the $5), from the 1940s onwards.
91 1 Stamps Small box containing three albums, with a few hundred worldwide stamps.
92 1 Stamps/Covers Box containing Newfoundland in two parts. The first part is a shoe box with probably over 1,000 used stamps, completely unchecked for postmarks, varieties etc. The second part contains a few hundred first day covers, generally from 1937 onwards. Should be a popular lot.
93 1 Stamps Carton containing thousands of worldwide, predominantly British Commonwealth countries, mint and used stamps. The best is a small box of mint British Commonwealth in hundreds of glassines, generally from the 195s-1960s, also used worldwide in 5 albums, packet of perfins, and more. Some nice stamps in here.
94 1 Stamps/Covers Small box with very interesting topical/thematic subject, noting real photo post cards, commercial mail, and stamps, relating to dog teams (mostly Alaska views, and USA material, races, etc). Also note CL45 Klondike Airways mint stamp (Unitrade c.v. $90). Small lot that packs an interesting punch.
95 1 Stamps Large plastic tub containing many thousands of worldwide stamps in 6 albums / stockbooks, envelopes, boxes, and more. Noted interesting USA #1 pair forgery, Canada revenues, Russia sheets, and more. Should be some interesting finds in here.
96 1 Stamps Small carton containing two albums. The best is a small album containing a few hundred North Vietnam used (saw a few stamps cataloguing $10 and up, there may be more), along with an album containing P to Y countries.
97 1 Covers Carton containing many hundreds of Canada postal history and first day covers, noting roughly 500 Québec covers, neatly organized alphabetically by town in a small tub, along with roughly 100 private cachet first day covers (few cataloguing $15 and up). Some nice material here.
98 1 Literature A small box with 16 publications relating to Canadian philately, noting books on 3c Small Queen, Admirals, various postmarks (including fancy and squared circles), and much more. Very useful with loads of information to aid every collector.
99 2 Stamps/Covers A most interesting lot in a large bin and a box, the contents recently unearthed and untouched since the early 1970s. We saw worldwide postal history and stamps from the classics on up. A mystery lot at its finest.
100 1 Stamps Large plastic tub with tens of thousands of stamps, in a few small boxes, neatly organized by country. Saw a 50c Bluenose, among British Commonwealth countries etc. Could have postmark finds.
101 1 Stamps Carton containing many thousand of mint and used worldwide stamps in 10 albums / stockbooks. Saw some souvenir sheets, Belgium and other European countries. Well organized and clean. Should be a popular lot.

TERMS & CONDITIONS OF SALE
Sparks Auctions Floor Sale – February 3, 2024

1. The property described in the lot list will be offered at a live, in-person, public floor auction by Sparks Auctions Inc. (hereinafter “Sparks Auctions”) on behalf of various consignors. By bidding on any lot, the bidder acknowledges and agrees to these Terms and Conditions of Sale.

2. The sale will be conducted in Canadian funds. The auctioneer shall regulate the bidding and reserves the right to reject any bid believed by him not to be made in good faith and to withdraw any lot prior to or during the sale and to act on behalf of the vendor. In the event of any dispute, the auctioneer’s decision shall be final.

3. The bidder with the highest bid acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. The term “hammer price” means the last bid acknowledged by the auctioneer. The purchase price payable by the buyer will be the sum of the hammer price plus a commission equal to 17% of the hammer price (“buyer’s premium”), together with any tax which may be applicable.

4. All lots shall be paid for and removed from the premises on the day of the sale. Payment may be made by e-transfer, cheque drawn on a Canadian bank, cash or credit card. A fee of 2.5% will be added to process credit card payments. A fee of $100.00 will be charged for any cheque returned for insufficient funds. Until paid in full, all lots remain the property of Sparks Auctions on behalf of the consignor.

5. All lots are sold as-is and there will be no extensions for expertization and no returns will be accepted for any reason. The opportunity to view the lots constitutes acknowledgement of both contents and quality.

6. Should any dispute arise over these Terms and Conditions, such dispute will be settled according to the laws and regulations of the Province of Ontario, Canada, with options for resolution being negotiation between the parties, followed by mediation, followed by action in the most appropriate legal venue in Ontario.
