Lot 386 Canada 1899 Overpayment of the old UPU Registered Rate to India, mailed Shediac NB on AUG.28.1899 (squared circles) registered to Madras, British India, through St John NB, London England (SEP.6), SEA POST OFFICE (SEP.18), Triplicane (SEP.25) and Mylapore (SEP.25). 2c stationery cover is uprated with a 2c Map, two different Provisionals and a 2c Numeral, paying the old UPU rate of 10c, overpaying by 3c. The new 7c (2c + 5c) rate took effect on January 1st, and not everyone must have known, or some would say they refused to acknowledge it. Very fine. From the Robert Lunn Map Stamp Collection. Lot 123 Canada #29 1868 15c slate violet Large Queen, a mint bottom margin block of four, with full original gum, top two stamps hinged, bottom never hinged but with light offset. Margin shows a small part of printer’s imprint (“BR…”), being from position 83-84, 93-94. The stamps are very well centered and very fine. A scarce block, catalogued as all hinged.
