Lot 783 — Western Australia 1861 four pence vermilion swan, unused, sold for $633

Lot 783Lot 783 Western Australia #24B 1861 4d vermilion Swan, Intermediate Perforated 14 to 16, unused (no gum). There is a natural paper inclusion, resulting in a printing defect at bottom of neck, else fine plus. Accompanied by a 2014 Sergio Sismondo certificate stating in part “the intermediate perforations appear in the earliest printings of perforated stamps of Western Australia, and were executed in-house by Perkins, Bacon & Co. with a machine in poor condition.” The Scott catalogue number and value given is for a similar perforated stamp, as this is not listed there. S.G. #35. Scott CV$300, sold for $550 plus buyer’s premium.

Auction #17 Has Finished

Auction #17 is now on the books. We saw some very nice prices in Canada, Australia, and Commonwealth, and will feature some of the better ones over the coming weeks.

Our office is closed to the public until Monday, June 1st, while we organize material and prepare invoices, though we are able to respond to e-mail and will check voice-mail messages. You will likely not receive a reply until Monday unless the matter is urgent.
