The Robert Heasman Collection of Early Canadian Machine Cancellations

Lot 1281, Victoria Exposition Flag, a nice usage canceling a 2c Numeral on a lovely private picture postcard (depicting The Gorge, Victoria BC) dated NT / AUG 22 / 01, being the latest reported use. Estimate C$750.

Collected over several decades, this collection was one of the best of its kind ever assembled and contains some key items from the Richardson, Sessions and Paige collections. Robert Heasman was very meticulous in assembling this collection, and the result was a multi-frame exhibit which won several awards both nationally and internationally (CAPEX 87, San Francisco 97). Bob was also very generous with his knowledge, always willing to help out fellow collectors.

These 104 lots were made up of his main collection (the exhibit) sorted by town and by machine type. At the end of each town we will offer his remainder lots, and at the end of the section will be some multi-town lots. All items from the exhibit have been kept on his exhibit pages, and we have scanned most of the exhibit pages, plus a number of the remainder lots online.

Since he was very careful to own only the best quality, the condition of both the postmarks and the items offered should be assumed to be of the highest quality. For this reason, we have not qualified each item, only the ones where there might be a reduced edge, or in rare cases a front, etc. Enjoy!
