669 Canada #CLP2 Cvr 1918 Aero Club of Canada Toronto to Ottawa Flight Cover, mailed Toronto (duplex dated 11pm, SEP.3.1918) and addressed to Ottawa, franked only with a CLP2 (tied by duplex). The cover was handstamped RETURNED FOR POSTAGE (twice, with two different instruments), then a 2c + 1c brown Admiral War Tax stamp was added. There are Dead Letter Office datestamps from both Ottawa and Toronto, plus an oval TORONTO / CANADA datestamp in purple dated SEP.5.1918, the day the flight happened. There is evidence the cover would have been flown to Ottawa on this first flight, as the Dead Letter Office datestamps are dated Ottawa SEP.5. 731 British Columbia & Vancouver Island O 1864 Victoria, Vancouver Paid Cover, mailed from Victoria B.C. to Stamford Canada West (FEB.6.1864 receiver on back), and handstamped on departure with blue oval POST OFFICE / VICTORIA VANCOUVER ISLAND / PAID, franked with U.S. #65 and 69. Stamps cancelled by sunburst fancy cancels at San Francisco, along with a c.d.s. dated JAN.7.1864. This cover travelled a long journey through Panama, New York, Niagara Falls and Toronto, by train and by steamer. Tiny tear at right, still very fine and rare in such nice condition. In addition, the lower left stamp has its upper left spandrel line retouched, (according to Marler, only 4 stamps on plate 20 were retouched this way). According to owner, all four stamps are also affected by a light kiss print and these are much narrower than normal for wet printings. A great item for the specialist, very fine. Ex.
