Lot 1783, Specialized Collection of Jamaica War Tax issues, sold for C$805

Lot 1783, Specialized Collection of Jamaica War Tax issues, sold for C$805Lot 1783 Jamaica Specialized Collection of War Tax Issues, all mounted on old time quadrille pages from two different collections, all bought at Harmers of NY in 1951 and left in the original envelope since then. An advanced collection, with mint and used (many never hinged), singles and blocks, plate blocks, etc. All issues are represented, with a multitude of overprint varieties, mostly described, and includes many of those listed in Scott plus some only listed in Stanley Gibbons. We note inverted, missing letters, letters replaced manually, slanted letters, missing periods (stops), very light or over-inked strikes, at least one double impression (Scott $140), letter variations, surface-coloured stamps (white back variety), and much more. A quick spot check revealed an SG 72c (£200) in a pair with normal, SG 68d (used £35), Scott MR6c ($225) in a pair and a number of varieties cataloguing in Scott in the $15 and $100. There are a few examples of a vertical slash in front of the word WAR or in between the words WAR and STAMP which are not listed. Many of the varieties are in pairs or larger multiples with normal stamps. There are a little over 400 stamps included. Because these were stored for so long, the colours are all quite bright and fresh. A nice collection with a high catalogue value.
